Plaza Bolívar

The Plaza Bolívar is the historic heart of Coro — a shaded square in the colonial grid surrounded by the cathedral, the old archbishop's palace, and a row of low whitewashed government buildings. The usual bronze Bolívar on horseback stands in the middle; benches under the trees fill with locals from late afternoon when the heat eases.

This is the natural starting point for a walk through the old town. From here Calle Zamora and Calle Federación run west into the densest concentration of preserved colonial houses, while the cathedral and the synagogue lie a couple of blocks east.
