Kasba Peth

The original village from which Pune grew. Kasba Peth was the oldest of the city's seventeen peths -- planned neighbourhoods laid out under the Peshwas -- and remains the dense, historic core: tightly packed lanes, eighteenth-century mansions in various states of decay, brassware streets, and the Kasba Ganapati and Tulsibaug temples.

This is where to walk if you want to feel the old Pune. The lanes between Shaniwar Wada, Tulsi Baug, and Tambat Ali (the coppersmiths' street) hold enough small shrines, wadas, and bazaars to fill an afternoon. Take an auto out, then walk.
