National War Memorial Southern Command

A black-granite memorial in the cantonment commemorating soldiers of the Southern Command who died in independent India's wars. The central pillar lists the dead from the 1947, 1962, 1965, 1971, and Kargil conflicts; the surrounding garden displays a captured Pakistani T-59 tank and other military hardware.

Sober and well-kept, the memorial is one of the few cantonment buildings open to the general public. Free entry; closed on Mondays. A short walk from the cantonment shopping area on East Street.
