Vishrambaug Wada

The pleasure palace of the last Peshwa, Bajirao II, built in 1807 and still showing the original carved wooden facade on Thorle Bajirao Road. The first floor is now a small Pune municipal museum with photographs, weapons, and a recreation of a Peshwa-era audience hall; the ground floor houses a post office.

The reason to come is the building itself. The teakwood balcony, painted ceilings, and chajja arches show what an aristocratic Maratha mansion looked like before colonial taste took over. Entry to the museum is a few rupees; the exterior is free to admire from the street.
