Bhukailash Rajbari

Bhukailash Rajbari is one of the few surviving zamindar palaces in South Kolkata. Built in 1781 by Joynarayan Ghosal, it recalls the estates that wealthy Bengali families created as colonial Calcutta expanded southward.

The complex is most rewarding for visitors interested in Kolkata's layered local history rather than polished museum presentation. Go for the architecture, temple courtyards, and the sense of an older suburban Calcutta still visible behind the main roads.
