Nakhoda Mosque

Nakhoda Mosque is the largest mosque in Kolkata, built in 1926 by Abdur Rahim Osman, a merchant from Kutch. Its Indo-Saracenic design, large prayer hall, and position in the dense trading streets of central Kolkata make it one of the city's more striking religious buildings.

Visitors should dress modestly and avoid prayer times unless they are entering to worship. The surrounding lanes are busy and rewarding on foot, especially if you are combining the mosque with College Street, Burrabazar, or the north Kolkata heritage quarters.
