Mahajati Sadan is a historic auditorium and cultural centre tied to India's independence movement. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose planned it, Rabindranath Tagore laid the foundation stone in 1939 and gave it its name, and Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy completed it in the early 1950s.
The draw is more historical than architectural, but it is worth a stop for visitors following Kolkata's nationalist and Bengali cultural history through the north of the city.
