The Gwalior Monument is an octagonal cenotaph near the Hooghly, crowned by a bronze dome cast from guns captured during the Gwalior War of 1843. Governor-General Lord Ellenborough had it built in 1847 to commemorate the officers and men who died in that campaign.
It is a compact colonial-era memorial, best seen as part of a wider walk through the Maidan and riverfront area.
