Dakshineswar Kali Temple is one of Kolkata's great Hindu pilgrimage sites, standing beside the Hooghly River north of the city centre. The nine-spired temple was opened by Rani Rashmoni in 1855 and is closely associated with the mystic Ramakrishna, who served here as priest. The riverside setting and active worship make it much more than an architectural stop.
