Metcalfe Hall

Metcalfe Hall is a neoclassical landmark in central Kolkata, built with a grand columned facade that looks more Mediterranean than Bengali. The building houses collections linked to the Archaeological Survey of India and the Asiatic Society, including exhibitions on old Calcutta, Bengali cinema, theatre, music, and visual culture.

It is worth a look both for the architecture and for the small displays inside. The hall sits near several of the city's colonial-era institutions, so it fits neatly into a walk through B.B.D. Bagh and the old administrative quarter.
