Adelaide Gaol

Adelaide Gaol is a 19th-century prison site on the edge of the city centre. Built in the 1840s and modelled on British and Irish jails, it preserves cells, yards, and execution areas from more than a century of use.

The gaol is a good stop for visitors interested in colonial history or darker heritage sites. Its location near the River Torrens also makes it easy to combine with a walk around the western side of central Adelaide.
