Adelaide Oval

Iconic cricket ground with century-old scoreboard and famous fig trees

Address War Memorial Drive, North Adelaide

Adelaide Oval is widely considered the most beautiful cricket ground in Australia, possibly in the world. The setting is extraordinary — the heritage scoreboard dating from 1911 stands at one end, and a row of enormous Moreton Bay fig trees lines the eastern hill, their canopies providing shade that no modern stadium can replicate. The River Torrens and the parklands frame the whole picture.

The ground also hosts AFL football (the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Power share it), and has undergone major redevelopment in recent years, adding a northern stand while preserving the character that makes it special. On non-match days, guided stadium tours are available, including the popular RoofClimb Adelaide Oval, which takes you up and over the roof on a guided walk with sweeping views across the city and hills.

Buy a ticket for a Ashes Test here if you ever get the chance — the atmosphere on day one, with the fig trees in the background, is unlike any other ground.
