The East End loosely describes the area around the eastern portion of Rundle Street and its surrounding laneways. This is where Adelaide goes out — a dense strip of restaurants, bars, cafes, and small arts venues that stretches from Frome Street to Pulteney Street and spills into the adjacent lanes.
The East End Market operates here on weekends. The laneway scene — Small's Lane, Ebenezer Place, Peel Street — is where many of the better small bars are tucked away, following a licensing reform that allowed small venues to open without major food operations. There's a good mix of cuisines: Vietnamese, Japanese, Thai, Italian, and Lebanese are all well-represented. On warm evenings the outdoor tables on Rundle Street fill up by six and stay busy until midnight.
