Mount Lofty is the highest point in the Mount Lofty Ranges and overlooks Adelaide from the east, 16 km from the CBD. The summit lookout at 710 m sits in Cleland Conservation Park and gives a view the other way from any other in the region: the coastal plain, the Gulf St Vincent, and — on a clear day — the Yorke Peninsula across the water.
A cafe operates at the summit. The Waterfall Gully walk from the suburbs at the base of the hills (1.5 hours return, well-marked) climbs steeply through native bush and creek gullies to reach the top on foot. The walk is popular enough at weekends that parking at Waterfall Gully can be difficult — go early or on a weekday.
