National Wine Centre of Australia

Interactive wine discovery centre at the edge of the Botanic Garden

The National Wine Centre sits at the corner of the Botanic Garden and offers a structured introduction to Australian wine — particularly useful if you're planning trips to the Barossa, McLaren Vale, or Clare Valley. The self-guided Winery Tour uses interactive displays to explain how wine is made; the attached cellar stocks wines from all of Australia's major regions.

Wine tasting by the glass is available without a tour; the range is genuinely broad and well-chosen. The building itself, opened in 2001, is interesting architecturally — a long shed clad in weathered steel and native timber, designed to evoke a vineyard winery while sitting comfortably next to the Victorian glasshouses of the Botanic Garden.
