Cimetière de Montparnasse is one of Paris's great historic cemeteries, with the graves of Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Serge Gainsbourg, Man Ray, Charles Baudelaire, Guy de Maupassant, and many other writers, artists, and musicians. It is a calm, shaded place to wander, and the concentration of cultural history makes it more than a local burial ground.
