The Jardin des Plantes is Paris's historic botanical garden, founded in the 17th century as a royal medicinal garden. Its 28 hectares hold formal plant collections, glasshouses, museums, and a small zoo.
It is one of the best places on the Left Bank for a slower half-day, especially if you combine the gardens with the natural history museum galleries nearby.
