Bamberg Symphony

A symphony orchestra with German-Bohemian roots

Address Mußstraße 1

A serious symphony orchestra with an unusual founding story — built in 1946 by German musicians expelled from Prague and reassembled around the Czech-Bohemian repertoire they brought with them. The Konzert- und Kongresshalle on the riverbank south of Schillerplatz is their home; the season runs September through June, with a famous Mahler cycle and a Bruckner cycle on regular rotation. International soloists pass through constantly.

A story
Founded in 1946 by German-speaking musicians expelled from the dissolved German Philharmonic of Prague after the war. They walked across the new border into Bavaria and rebuilt the orchestra in Bamberg. Today they are one of Germany's leading touring orchestras and the Bavarian state orchestra.
