A handsome theatre on Schillerplatz named for E.T.A. Hoffmann — composer, writer, lawyer, and from 1808 to 1813 the musical director and house dramaturge of the predecessor company on this same site. Three stages now; the season covers serious German and international plays and a chamber-opera programme.
The small E.T.A. Hoffmann House across the square, where the writer rented an attic flat, is open as a museum.
