Gardener and Vintner Museum

Small museum on the city's UNESCO-listed urban market gardens

A small, specific museum housed in the Mittelstraße — the original Gärtnerviertel — telling the story of Bamberg's centuries-old tradition of growing vegetables and salad crops on tiny plots inside the city limits. Tools, sepia photographs, seed catalogues, and a working garden plot in the courtyard with the local heritage varieties (Bamberger Süßholz, Bamberger Hörnla potato). Half an hour is enough; the surrounding district is the real museum.

A story
Bamberg's market gardeners (Gärtner) have grown vegetables on small plots inside the city walls since the Middle Ages. Their bedded strips between the Hain park and the eastern suburbs are now part of the UNESCO World Heritage inscription — one of the few remaining urban market-garden districts in Europe.
