Dialog im Dunkeln

Dialog im Dunkeln — Dialogue in the Dark — is an unusual interactive exhibition where blind guides lead small groups through pitch-black rooms recreating everyday scenarios: a park, a market, a busy street, a boat trip on the Elbe, a bar. You navigate by touch, smell and sound only.

The hour-long tour is the standout exhibition at the Dialoghaus on Alter Wandrahm, and it has been running successfully in Hamburg since 2000 (the concept is now licensed worldwide). Booking ahead is essential — slots fill weeks in advance — and the tour is in German, though English-language guides can sometimes be arranged. Children under eight are not admitted.
