Uhlenhorst

Uhlenhorst, along the east shore of the Aussenalster, is a quiet bourgeois neighbourhood that earns its place as one of Hamburg's nicer districts on the strength of its lakeside parks and its early-20th-century villas. The Schöne Aussicht (Beautiful View) embankment runs along the water with a footpath under big chestnut trees.

There is little to do here except walk and sit — but the Bobby Reich boathouse café at the southern end and Café Wilhelm towards the north both have lakefront terraces that fill on summer Sundays. The Uhlenhorster Fährhaus, with its restaurant and concert venue, has been a Hamburg institution since 1815. Best reached by walking the Aussenalster loop from the city centre, about half an hour each way.
