A British Oberon-class submarine launched in 1962 and decommissioned in 1991, the HMS Otus now sits at the pier in Sassnitz as a museum ship. Visitors descend through the hatches and walk the length of the boat — torpedo room, control room, engine room, mess deck — through cramped corridors and over the original equipment.
It is one of the few Cold War-era Western submarines accessible to the public in Germany, and the contrast with the East German DDR-era machinery on display elsewhere in Mecklenburg is part of the interest. The audio tour is included in the entry. Plan around 45 minutes.
