The gravestone of Christmas Evans stands in the small graveyard at Bethesda Chapel on Bethesda Street, just behind the city centre. Evans, born on Christmas Day 1766, was one of the most famous Welsh Nonconformist preachers of the early nineteenth century, blind in one eye and known for the dramatic intensity of his Welsh-language sermons.
The grave is a simple stone slab, and the graveyard is locked outside service times — peer through the railings or ask at the chapel during opening hours.
