Swansea Grand Theatre

The Grand opened in 1897 with Adelina Patti, the international opera diva who lived nearby at Craig-y-Nos, singing on the first night. It is a fine late-Victorian playhouse with a 1,000-seat auditorium and a calendar of touring drama, opera, ballet and Christmas pantomime.

The building survived the 1941 Blitz almost intact and has been carefully restored over the years. Even if you are not catching a show, the foyer and exterior — all painted ironwork and red-brick detail — are worth a look on a wander through the city centre.
