The five-mile sweep of Swansea Bay, from the docks at the east to the headland at Mumbles in the west, is one of the great urban beaches of Britain. The sand is firm and flat at low tide, the water shallow and (when the sun cooperates) inviting for a swim.
A continuous promenade and cycle path runs the whole length of the bay, busy with walkers, joggers, cyclists and dog-walkers from dawn to dusk. Hire a bike in town and ride the whole length in about half an hour each way; or just walk a stretch and finish at a Mumbles ice-cream shop.
