Downtown Nassau

The historic core of Nassau, packed into the half-kilometre stretch between Bay Street and the rise behind it. This is the Loyalist-era Nassau of pink Georgian buildings, narrow tree-lined side streets, and small squares. The cruise dock is at its western edge; everything worth seeing on foot is within fifteen minutes' walk.

The character is split: the Bay Street strip is loud, crowded, and aimed at cruise passengers, while two blocks south on Shirley Street and West Hill Street the streets are residential and quiet. The best time to walk it is early morning — before the ships dock — or late afternoon after they leave. The downtown POIs cluster on Bay Street, Parliament Square, and the slopes up to Government House and Fort Fincastle.
