La Cañada

The stone-walled channel that runs north-south through the western edge of the old city, lined with manicured sycamore trees and crossed by a series of small bridges. La Cañada is one of the city's signature views and a favourite walking route.

Most of the year the channel runs almost dry, but in summer storms it can fill quickly. The cafes and small restaurants along its banks are popular in the evenings.

A story
The channel was lined with stone walls and topiary sycamores in the 1940s after floods repeatedly tore through the city centre. It is now featured on every postcard of Córdoba; few visitors realise it is essentially a flood-control project.
