Plaza San Martín

The main square of the old city, ringed by the cathedral, the Cabildo, and the Banco de Córdoba, has been the heart of public life since the town was founded in 1573. The bronze equestrian statue of San Martín in the centre is the focal point, and the orange trees and benches make it one of the most pleasant places to sit in the centre.

The plaza is busy day and night — office workers eating empanadas on lunch breaks, students cutting through to the university, and tango dancers who set up speakers most evenings. The historic Café Sorocabana on one corner is a good place to people-watch.
