Parque Kennedy

The cat-filled heart of Miraflores, busy at all hours

Parque Kennedy — named for the American president after his 1962 visit — is the social centre of Miraflores, a triangle of flower beds, palm trees, and benches between the Iglesia La Virgen Milagrosa and the main commercial streets. The cats are the most famous residents: dozens of them, looked after by neighbours and an animal-welfare group, lounge on the lawns and benches and largely ignore tourists.

In the evenings the southern half of the park hosts open-air artisan markets, chess players, occasional live bands, and a steady drift of strollers between cafés. The Pasaje Cavenecio street art alley runs off one corner. Easy to reach from anywhere in Miraflores and a useful navigation point.

A story
The park is famously home to dozens of stray cats — fed by neighbours, sterilised by a local NGO, and largely indifferent to humans. The cats arrived after a Spanish colonial-era convent on the site closed, and locals have refused to remove them for decades.
