The Jinli and Wuhou area in the south of the city centre is Chengdu's most historically layered neighbourhood. The Wuhou Shrine complex commemorates figures from the Three Kingdoms period (3rd century AD), while Jinli Ancient Street is a reconstructed Qing-dynasty commercial lane now given over to souvenir shops and snack stalls. Despite being tourist-oriented, the area is atmospheric in the evening when lanterns illuminate the traditional roof lines. The Tibetan neighbourhood (Little Tibet) begins just south of here.
