Luodai Ancient Township is a preserved Hakka town east of central Chengdu, known for its old lanes, clan halls, and traditional western Sichuan architecture. It is promoted as one of western China's important Hakka heritage towns and has enough streetscape and history to justify the trip beyond Chengdu's core sights.
Come for a slow walk rather than a single monument. The town works best as a half-day outing, with time to look at the old guild halls and sample local snacks between the restored shopfronts.
