Bloody Bastion

The Bloody Bastion — Khooni Burj, also called the Bloody Tower — is one of the few surviving stretches of the original Multan city wall, on Alang Road between Pak Gate and Delhi Gate. The bastion got its name from the heavy fighting during the British siege of January 1849, when waves of Bombay Native Infantry assaulted this corner of the defences and the ground around it ran with blood for two days.

Today the bastion is a stub of brick on a busy road, surrounded by shops and rickshaw stands, with a small Pakistan archaeology department plaque. It is more interesting for the history than the architecture, but a useful waypoint for walking the southern arc of the old wall between Pak Gate and Delhi Gate.
