Bohar Gate

The Bohar Gate is the most photogenic of Multan's surviving city gates, a three-arched brick portal in the western wall of the old city. Originally built in the medieval period and repeatedly rebuilt, the current structure dates from the eighteenth century, when the gates were repaired under the Afghan governors. The name comes from the bohar (banyan) tree that once grew immediately outside it.

Stepping through the gate puts you immediately on the lane that runs past the Shrine of Shah Yousaf Gardezi and into the maze of the walled city. This is the recommended entry point for a walking visit.
