A 12th-century Norman church with some of the finest Byzantine mosaics in Sicily, including a famous image of Roger II being crowned by Christ — one of the earliest known representations of a Norman king. The slim campanile and the Greek cross plan survive from the original; the interior was heavily modified in the Baroque period but the mosaics in the apse and dome are intact. Adjacent to the small church of San Cataldo, with its distinctive Arab-style red domes.
