Museo Archeologico Salinas

The Salinas Archaeological Museum holds the largest collection of Phoenician, Greek, and Roman antiquities on the island, mostly from the great Doric temples at Selinunte and from sites across the western Sicilian coast. The metopes from Selinunte, especially the four from Temple C and the late-archaic metopes from Temple E, are the headline pieces.

The museum also has substantial Etruscan, Egyptian, and Roman holdings, including the Palermo Stone — a fragment of basalt incised with a list of Egyptian kings of the first five dynasties. The renovated cloisters and inner courtyards are pleasant in their own right. Allow a long morning.
