The Centru — the medieval and Habsburg-era centre — is what most visitors come to Cluj for. It runs roughly from Piața Mihai Viteazu in the west to Piața Avram Iancu in the east, with Piața Unirii at its core. Almost everything historic is within ten minutes' walk: the cathedrals, the opera, the museums, the medieval walls.
Streets are partly pedestrianised. Cobbled lanes lead away from the main squares into quieter blocks of pastel-painted townhouses, bookshops, and bars. The Centru also contains most of the city's bars and restaurants — by night this is where everyone ends up.
