The National History Museum, on the south side of Museum Square, is the more comprehensive of Cluj's two history museums (the other being the Transylvanian History Museum two doors down — confusingly named for visitors). The chronological collection runs from Neolithic through the Dacian gold to the Roman provinces of Dacia and Pannonia, then medieval Transylvania.
The Roman section is the strongest, with stelae, mosaics, and inscriptions excavated across the region. The medieval rooms include weaponry, manuscripts, and surviving religious art. Allow two hours; the labelling is bilingual in Romanian and English.
