Iulius Park, between the old centre and the eastern districts, is the modern face of Cluj — a small lake surrounded by terraces, restaurants, and the city's biggest shopping mall. After dark in summer the boardwalk around the lake is one of the most lively places in the city.
The contrast with the old town is intentional: this is where Cluj's tech-economy money has been spent. Iulius Mall houses cinemas, food courts, and major Western brands. The park itself is free and pleasant for an evening walk; the cafes and restaurants are reasonably priced.
