The Tailors' Bastion is what remains of Cluj's medieval defences: a stocky stone tower at the southeast corner of the old citadel, first built in the 15th century and rebuilt after a Tatar attack in 1658. The tailors' guild was responsible for defending this stretch of wall — hence the name — and the building still has the murder-holes and arrow slits to prove it.
The bastion was restored in 2009 and now hosts cultural events and exhibitions. Even when there is nothing on inside, the small park around it is a quiet break from the centre, and the surviving fragment of city wall running south gives a sense of how the medieval town was contained.
