Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania

Transylvanian folk culture, with both an indoor collection and an open-air village

The Ethnographic Museum splits between two sites. The indoor museum, on Strada Memorandumului, has a strong collection of Transylvanian folk costume, ceramics, and tools, organised by ethnic group and region — Romanian, Hungarian, Saxon, Roma, Jewish.

The far better part is the Romulus Vuia open-air section, on the western edge of the city in the Hoia woods. Around fifty traditional wooden houses, mills, and churches have been moved here from across Transylvania and reassembled in a leafy hillside park. A full visit is the better part of a day; take bus 30 from the centre.
