The Hoia-Baciu Forest on the western edge of Cluj has been called "the Bermuda Triangle of Romania" — an off-the-beaten-track sight cited by Atlas Obscura among others. Walk the marked trails and you'll see twisted, leaning, oddly-shaped trees and a strange perfectly circular clearing in the middle, the Poiana Rotunda, where nothing grows. The setting alone is striking, paranormal claims aside.
The forest is a 20-minute drive or a 40-minute bus ride from the centre, beyond the Ethnographic Museum's open-air section. Walking trails are well marked and the area is popular with locals for hiking and mountain biking. Bring proper shoes and don't go alone after dark.
