Carrer Montcada is one of Barcelona's best streets for seeing medieval townhouses, especially the Gothic palaces that once belonged to wealthy merchants. The Picasso Museum occupies several of these buildings, and smaller museums and galleries line the street.
It is worth walking slowly rather than just using it as a route through El Born. The courtyards, stone staircases, and museum entrances give a good sense of the neighborhood's mercantile past.
