Plaça Sant Jaume

Plaça Sant Jaume has been Barcelona's political centre since Roman times. Today it is framed by the Palau de la Generalitat, seat of the Catalan government, and Barcelona City Hall, facing each other across the square.

The square is not especially pretty by Barcelona standards, but it is loaded with history. It has seen proclamations, demonstrations, and civic ceremonies, and it makes a natural pause while walking the Gothic Quarter.
