Estadio Akron (Chivas)

The Estadio Akron — home of Club Deportivo Guadalajara, universally known as Chivas — is one of the finest football stadiums in Mexico. Built in 2010 with a capacity of around 49,000, it is distinctive for its shape (designed to look like a traditional sombrero from above) and for being entirely privately funded and owned. Chivas is the most popular team in Mexico by fan base, and the stadium is nearly always sold out for important matches.

Attending a Chivas match is one of the more genuinely Mexican experiences available in Guadalajara — the atmosphere in the stadium is intense and the fan culture is deeply local. Tickets can be bought at the stadium or through official channels; avoid scalpers. The stadium is in Zapopan, northwest of the centre.
