The Museo de Arte de Jalisco occupies a handsome 19th-century building near the historic centre and holds a collection of art from colonial times through the 20th century, with particular strength in Jalisco painters. The permanent collection includes pre-Hispanic and colonial pieces alongside modern Mexican work. Temporary exhibitions tend to focus on regional artists who haven't received the national attention of the muralists.
Admission is modest and the museum is rarely crowded. A good complement to the Orozco works elsewhere in the city — this fills in the context of what the rest of Jalisco's artistic tradition looked like.
