Fontainebleau Miami Beach

Address 4441 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach

Morris Lapidus designed the Fontainebleau in 1954 and it became the defining image of Miami Beach glamour — a sweeping, theatrical building that mixed French Baroque curves with mid-century American excess. Frank Sinatra performed here regularly, the Rat Pack held court by the pool, and James Bond checked in for Goldfinger. The hotel has been renovated and expanded, but the original lobby — all bow-tie columns, floating staircases, and Lapidus's trademark "woggles" — is intact and worth walking through even if you are not a guest.
