Simpson Park Hammock

Address 55 SW 17th Road

A rare remnant of the tropical hardwood hammock that once covered much of coastal South Florida, tucked improbably between Brickell's glass towers. This 7.8-acre patch of dense subtropical forest contains gumbo-limbo trees, live oaks, strangler figs, and native orchids — a tiny fragment of what the entire area looked like before development. A short boardwalk trail loops through the hammock. It is a strange and wonderful experience to step from a city sidewalk into genuine subtropical wilderness.
