One of the most powerful Holocaust memorials in the United States, set in a garden between the Convention Center and the Bass Museum. The centrepiece is a 42-foot bronze arm and hand reaching skyward, covered with nearly a hundred life-size figures of people struggling to climb it. The surrounding meditation garden, reflecting pool, and tunnel of names create a sequence that is genuinely moving. Free to visit.
story: > The memorial's address — 1933-1945 Meridian Avenue — is itself deliberate, marking the years of Nazi rule. Sculptor Kenneth Treister spent years creating the 130 bronze figures that cover the central sculpture.
