Gold Coast Railroad Museum

Address 12450 SW 152nd Street

Adjacent to Zoo Miami, this small railroad museum is home to over 40 historic railcars and locomotives, including the Ferdinand Magellan — the private Pullman car used by every US president from Franklin Roosevelt to Ronald Reagan. Roosevelt rode it to the 1945 Yalta Conference; Truman famously held it up on the back platform during his 1948 whistle-stop campaign. Weekend train rides loop around the grounds. A good family-friendly pairing with a Zoo Miami visit.

story: > The Ferdinand Magellan weighs 285,000 pounds, making it the heaviest railcar ever built — the extra weight comes from armour plating and 3-inch-thick bulletproof glass installed after Pearl Harbor.
